Conscious And Subconscious Mind Power: The Truth About Our Subconscious Mind

Conscious and subconscious mind power explained.

It used to be thought that the unconscious or subconscious mind was a scary, dark place where your demons hide and rule your life secretly, a place where your repressed traumas live and control you. And for many of us, being controlled by repressed memories does happen and can feel very dark and quite scary. This is alive and real for many, many people. Conscious and subconscious mind power are two pillars of our mental landscape, working in tandem to shape our thoughts, emotions, and actions. When we align our conscious intentions with the deep-seated programming of the subconscious, we unlock the ability to rewire limiting beliefs, access hidden strengths, and manifest positive change in our lives.

The interplay between conscious and subconscious mind power holds the key to unlocking our fullest potential. By understanding the intricate workings of our minds, we can tap into the vast resources of our subconscious, harnessing its power to reshape beliefs, overcome obstacles, and achieve profound personal transformation.

The great news is that, in the world of trauma recovery, we now know more about our inner world than ever before, thanks to psychologist Dr. Richard Schwartz, who developed what is known as Internal Family Systems (IFS). This system operates as a family does: Sometimes the “parts” of this internal family protect each other, and sometimes they don’t really get along, but they all have a positive intention for you, and that is to keep you safe, feeling loved, and feeling like you belong in this world. These parts keep you alive, and they can be appreciated and seen for the value they offer instead of being hidden and sent into hiding from our own awareness. Like in a normal family system, we can learn to work with and communicate with these parts and find compassion and curiosity instead of judging and banishing them to the farthest regions of our inner selves.

Enter parts-work. Meeting your hidden “parts” is a total game-changer in trauma recovery.

Now, by “parts” I don’t mean that you have voices in your head that we in society or that psychologists might sometimes assess as a mental illness. This is not the case here. These parts are not to be defined in this way. So, please don’t worry! This is simply a method or a tool we use in the mental health world to look at different ways that you sometimes sabotage yourself in health, relationships, work life, and other areas. We can personify and objectify these parts to help us create some distance between them and us and see more clearly that these are very innocent (young even) aspects of ourselves that are only trying to help us.

These parts might sometimes feel afraid, insecure, angry, ashamed, self-doubting, or many other feelings. So, what I aim to do in my coaching is to help you meet these parts of yourself, learn to see their good intentions for you, feel compassion for all the hard work they have been doing for you, and create a relationship with them. This helps you to reconnect with your deepest, most authentic self and to integrate these “shadow” aspects into yourself so you feel more at ease, peaceful, and whole about yourself.

With all its various parts, the subconscious mind is meant to be understood and valued for its contribution to keeping you alive and doing its best to create a life worth living. The subconscious mind is part of you. It is like another organ or appendage that is vital to your life. In fact, although up for debate, it is thought that the subconscious mind lives in your body and not in your brain, as is often believed. This is why getting back into our bodies and working through all the feelings we have about ourselves—the feelings that arise from the false or limiting beliefs these parts carry—helps us become more grounded in ourselves, healed of our past wounds; to stop over-thinking and over-analyzing things; to feel more balanced and confident; and to feel a sense of being in the present moment more often.

The subconscious mind is where all creativity stems from, too. Whether you are creating a happy or a sad life, the subconscious mind is the creator of it all. If we want to take it to a spiritual level, we can see the subconscious as the place where we manifest from. It is also how we can see that our universe is creating our individual lives. So, my guess is that you want to make sure to help it create (manifest) a happier life rather than a miserable one, right?

Just like our body gives us symptoms when it is in pain and becoming sick so that we can get the necessary help we need, so too are our parts and associated beliefs and feelings trying to get our attention so we can heal mentally and emotionally.

Pushing down your darkest fears and suppressing your most painful emotions only allows them to stay alive in you. Fear grows in the darkness, not in the light. The light always casts out the darkness, right? So, becoming aware of your fears and bringing them out into the light helps them diminish, not grow. When we hide our fears from ourselves, we leave our bodies. We disconnect, resent, and hate our bodies. Our bodies are where our feelings live, our intuition, and our connection to ourselves and something greater. When we abandon ourselves (our bodies) in this way, we lose trust in ourselves and attract jobs, people, and life circumstances that don’t align with who we really are.

We feel a lot of confusion and indecision about ourselves when we leave our bodies and don’t work with the subconscious fears and associated feelings that we carry. So, harvesting these beliefs that these parts carry, looking them straight in the face (having a little face-off, if you will), relating to them with understanding and love as a parent does with a child, and having so much compassion for the pain and suffering they carry is how we re-parent ourselves and love ourselves more fully.

There is no reason to banish our beliefs and feelings continually. They are part of us, and they are there for a reason. They are little messengers that help us see ourselves more clearly to heal the past more effectively. They are not trying to hurt us more. Just like our body gives us symptoms when it is in pain and becoming sick so that we can get the necessary help we need, so too are our parts and associated beliefs and feelings trying to get our attention so we can heal mentally and emotionally. They help us reconnect to our truest selves; reconnecting with yourself is the best way to love yourself fully.

Exploring the depths of conscious and subconscious mind power reveals our subconscious’s immense influence on our daily lives. By cultivating self-awareness, practicing mindfulness, and engaging in techniques such as visualization and affirmation, we can tap into the vast potential of our minds, fostering personal growth, resilience, and the realization of our deepest desires.

When I help you explore the hidden parts of your subconscious that are driving your bus (running your life), it is not to demonize these parts. It is simply to take them out of hiding, detach from their power over you, and create a new, powerful pathway that you consciously drive yourself.
